Ever ask a student to explain how a battery works? Why a rolling marble comes to a stop? Chances are your students have answers to these questions—answers that may or may not align with current scientific understandings. Research shows that the 5E instructional model, which is the focus of this course, integrates the three dimensions of the NGSS to allow students to genuinely confront misconceptions through an inquiry-based lesson cycle (Bybee, 2013, p. 52). This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to plan and implement 5E model lesson cycles that last anywhere from a single day to several days.
