In this course, you will be introduced to the concepts of Time and Momentum as they are described by Jon Saphier and colleagues in The Skillful Teacher. In this research based text, Saphier and colleagues outline the idea of "time as a construct" and explain concrete strategies for keeping momentum or "flow" during the course of a lesson. In addition, you will receive direct instruction based on the Pacing chapter in Doug Lemov’s Teach Like a Champion ("Change the Pace" and "Work the Clock" specifically). You will then view and analyze examples of teacher pacing, choosing from various pacing methods, and receive feedback via online video review.
