Full course description

Welcome to Working with Co-Teachers! Whether you will have a co-teacher now or not, you will likely collaborate with other teachers and/or service providers to meet the needs of all of your students. In this module, you will be introduced to other potential stakeholders with whom you may co-teach or partner to ensure your students’ academic success, including speech language pathologists, push-in special education teachers, and others. Learning to work with a variety of classroom partners will help you build strong, productive partnerships with your colleagues that you can leverage to push student achievement. There is high probability that at some point in your teaching career you will need to collaborate. This course will prepare you for these interactions.

The relationship you develop with partners should be symbiotic—you both should benefit and, most of all, the students should benefit. Like the clown fish and the anemone in this image, your relationship should be built on mutual respect and a common goal. First, you will receive brief direct instruction on identifying potential partners and defining their roles within the classroom environment. Then, you will quickly move forward to explore the best practices, tools, and tips to build successful relationships with these partners and collaborate to drive student achievement.
